Dunbar is a town steeped in the stormy history of Scotland's turbulent past. On rocks above the new harbour, stands the precarious ruin of Dunbar Castle which once sheltered Mary Queen of Scots as she fled Edinburgh after the murder of Rizzio.

Dunbar became a Burgh in 1370 and a Royal Burgh on 16th August 1445, but its known history extends further back in time. Dark Age and Bronze Age remains have been found. There are many locations of interest, including the site of an Anglo-Saxon hall which has been marked out at Doonhill.
In the Dark Ages, the Picts laid claim to Lothian and established themselves at Dunbar.

These days Dunbar is far more civilised. Come enjoy the history as well as several golf courses, top class restaurants and much much more.
